Fate/Grand Order does not have a conventional legendary-weapon inventory. You obtain weapon-like power through Servants, their Noble Phantasms, Craft Essences, and Command Codes. The fastest route is to save Saint Quartz for a rate-up banner, raise one strong damage dealer, use event welfare Servants when available, and complete Interludes or Strengthening Quests that upgrade Noble Phantasm effects. Excalibur, Enuma Elish, Gáe Bolg, and Vasavi Shakti are not lootable swords or spears; they are Noble Phantasms belonging to specific Servants.
What Counts as a Legendary Weapon in FGO?
FGO's combat system separates a Servant's identity from its equipment. Saber Artoria Pendragon uses Excalibur, Gilgamesh uses Enuma Elish, Cu Chulainn uses Gáe Bolg, and Karna uses Vasavi Shakti. You acquire the character through the Friend Point or Saint Quartz Summon, then use that Servant's Noble Phantasm in battle.
There is no global weapon forge, dungeon drop table, or tradeable sword system. A Servant's NP level increases when you summon duplicate copies of that same Servant, while NP damage also depends on level, skills, ascension, Fou enhancements, and the enemy's class. A five-star Servant at NP1 can still be excellent; chasing NP5 is an expensive optimization rather than a requirement.
Craft Essences are the closest equivalent to equipment. The Black Grail boosts NP damage by 60% and applies a 500 HP-per-turn demerit at base limit break; at MLB, it reaches 80% NP damage. Kaleidoscope starts a Servant with 80% NP gauge, or 100% when MLB. These cards are summoned separately from Servants and cannot be attached to create a new Noble Phantasm.

How to Summon Powerful Noble Phantasm Users
Step 1: Identify the banner. Limited Servants appear on rate-up banners and may be unavailable for long periods. Story-locked Servants enter the Story Summon pool only after specific story progress, while permanent Servants can appear in several banners. Read the banner details before spending Saint Quartz; the featured Servant is never guaranteed by ordinary single rolls.
Step 2: Save Saint Quartz and summon tickets. Complete Lostbelt chapters, free quests, login campaigns, Master Missions, Rank Up Quests, and event missions before rolling. Never spend Quartz on the Story Summon simply because you want a famous weapon. Wait for a banner featuring the exact Servant whose NP you need. Paid Saint Quartz guaranteed campaigns are separate and usually offer one guaranteed five-star result from a restricted pool.
Step 3: Build a functional roster around the NP. A damage Servant needs NP gauge, buffs, and class advantage. Artoria Pendragon benefits from Arts or Buster support and deals Saber-class damage; Gilgamesh's Enuma Elish is especially valuable against Servants because of its special damage modifier; Arash's Stella is a low-rarity AoE Archer NP that can clear waves despite sacrificing Arash afterward. These are practical targets, not just famous names.
Step 4: Borrow the missing weapon. Your Friend Support list can provide a level 100 or NP5 Servant carrying a powerful Craft Essence. A new account can clear difficult content by borrowing a strong support such as Castoria, Koyanskaya of Light, Oberon, or a high-level Berserker while developing its own roster. This is why spending every resource on one premium attacker is usually less efficient than securing support and farming tools.
For broader resource-planning advice, see Steamoz's early-game character guide. The principle is the same: prioritize units that solve repeated progression checks rather than collecting names without a team.
How to Get Free Event Noble Phantasms
Event welfare Servants are the closest thing FGO has to guaranteed legendary weapons. They are normally earned by clearing an event story, completing an event mission, or exchanging event currency. Their copies are often distributed through the same event, allowing a committed player to reach NP5 without Saint Quartz summons. Requirements differ, so read the event's Main Interlude, Event Shop, or Welfare Exchange menu carefully.
Examples include Chloe von Einzbern, an Archer whose Kiss of the Blue Jewel is a powerful single-target Arts NP; Scáthach (Assassin), whose Gae Bolg Alternative is an AoE Quick NP; and BB, a Moon Cancer with an AoE Buster NP. Other welfare units, including Ryougi Shiki (Assassin) and Kuro, have historically returned through reruns or special access systems.
Older events may not rerun in their original form. When available, Evocation Leaf menus, Main Interludes, Rare Prism exchanges, or limited revival campaigns can provide another path to an event Servant and its NP copies. These options are not permanently identical across the English and Japanese versions, so confirm availability in the in-game shop rather than trusting an old farming guide.
Prioritize welfare reruns that fill a missing class role. A free single-target Rider, AoE Caster, or Arts Archer can contribute more immediately than a second premium Saber. Farm the event shop's ascension materials and NP copies before the event deadline; missing one copy can leave the Servant at NP1 and lock away the full welfare advantage.
Best Craft Essences for Weapon-Like Damage
After obtaining a Servant, equip the right Craft Essence for the NP plan. The Black Grail is the premier raw-damage option when a support can supply enough NP gauge. Its 60% base NP damage bonus is enormous, but the 500 HP-per-turn loss matters in long fights. Heaven's Feel provides a smaller NP damage increase without Black Grail's demerit. For farming, Kaleidoscope gives 80% starting NP and becomes a full 100% starting gauge at maximum limit break.
Event Craft Essences can be better for a specific raid or lottery because they may increase event currency drops, damage, or starting NP. Do not burn them for Rare Prisms until the event shop and rerun policy are clear. Limit breaking requires five copies: four extra copies combined with the original. A level 100 Craft Essence also receives substantial stat growth, but correct effect and NP timing matter more than card level during early progression.
Use damage-type matching. Buster NPs pair naturally with Buster support and attack buffs, Arts NPs value Arts cards and NP gain, and Quick NPs benefit from Quick buffs and critical stars. An NP-damage Craft Essence is not automatically best if the Servant cannot charge quickly enough to fire before the enemy wave or break bar.
How to Upgrade Noble Phantasms and Command Codes
Open a Servant's Growth menu to raise level, ascend through four stages, and level active skills. Skill levels 6 and 10 provide major cooldown reductions, while Append Skill 2 increases starting NP gauge by up to 20% when fully unlocked. Use Fou cards for permanent ATK and HP improvements, but do not confuse them with NP levels: Fou cards never increase NP damage in the same way as duplicate Servant copies.
Strengthening Quests and Interludes can upgrade an NP's multiplier, add damage traits, improve hit counts, or grant a new effect. Artoria's NP strengthening, for example, improves Excalibur's damage and adds an NP damage-buff effect in versions where that upgrade is available. Gilgamesh's Enuma Elish is also tied to Servant-specific strengthening content. Requirements can include ascension, bond level, and story progress, so check the red notification in the Strengthening menu.
Command Codes are smaller weapon modifications engraved onto individual Command Cards. Code: Cure removes a debuff when that card is used, while Good Wife, Wise Fox improves healing received and other codes add critical, star, or trait-specific effects. They do not create a new NP, but they can make a boss-killing card more reliable. Use Code Removers carefully because engraving and removal consume separate materials.
Finally, treat Noble Phantasms as team tools rather than collectible swords. Class advantage deals double damage against the favorable class and reduces incoming damage, while an NP's overcharge effect often changes at OC1, OC2, and higher. Charge NP with Arts chains, use buffs before attacking, and align a single-target NP with a boss break bar. That approach turns a properly raised welfare Servant or permanent unit into a genuine legendary weapon for your account. For comparison with conventional equipment systems, Steamoz also covers Minecraft weapon progression and armor-set locations.
For Japanese-version notices and official game information, consult the official Japanese FGO website and the Aniplex Fate/Grand Order page. The key takeaway remains simple: summon the Servant, obtain the correct Craft Essence, complete its strengthening content, and use event welfare reruns to secure powerful NP5 options without relying entirely on luck.
