Peter Parker swinging between skyscrapers in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PC
Manhattan is Spider-Man Remastered's biggest playground.

Before you start Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered on PC, lock in one priority: build a stable 60 fps experience first, then learn how movement, Focus, gadgets, and suit mods feed into each other. The game throws a lot at you early, but the smoothest route is simple—finish the opening missions, unlock the skill trees and gadgets, collect enough Tokens for core upgrades, and don't waste rare resources chasing every map icon immediately.

This is the 2018 PlayStation adventure with the The City That Never Sleeps DLC bundled in, not a new Peter Parker story. You'll play as an experienced Peter, fight Wilson Fisk's gang, deal with the Demons and Sable forces, and eventually face some spectacular supervillain encounters. The PC version adds ultrawide support, unlocked frame rates, mouse-and-keyboard controls, DLSS, FSR 2.0, Intel XeSS, and optional ray-traced reflections. Those extras are great, but they also make a bad first setup surprisingly easy.

Check Your PC Before You Buy

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered PC graphics settings and ray tracing menu
The right settings matter more than simply turning every option up.

Spider-Man Remastered is older than its PC release date suggests, but Manhattan streams constantly while you swing across it. CPU performance matters during fast traversal, and ray tracing can punish midrange GPUs hard. Sony's official requirements list 8GB of RAM and a GTX 950 or Radeon RX 470 for the minimum 720p/30 fps profile, while the recommended 1080p/60 fps target calls for 16GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580.

Those are targets, not guarantees for every preset. Install the game on an SSD if you can. A hard drive may technically work, but it can produce longer loading and traversal-related asset streaming hiccups. Keep at least the game's advertised 75GB of storage free, and give Windows room for shader caches and updates. The official Steam page lists the current requirements and supported features.

TargetCPU / GPU / RAMResolution and Frame RatePractical Advice
MinimumCore i3-4160, GTX 950 4GB or RX 470, 8GB720p at 30 fps, Very LowUse dynamic resolution and avoid ray tracing
RecommendedCore i5-4670 or Ryzen 5 1600, GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580, 16GB1080p at 60 fps, MediumBest starting point for mainstream gaming PCs
HighCore i5-11400 or Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 3070 or RX 6950 XT, 16GB1440p at 60 fps, HighGood baseline for high-resolution play
Very HighCore i7-12700K or Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 3080 or RX 6950 XT, 16GB4K at 60 fps, Very HighRay tracing still needs extra GPU headroom

If you run into crashes or unstable performance, start with the same basics covered in our guide to PC crash and FPS fixes: update the GPU driver, verify files, disable overlays, and test a clean graphics profile before blaming the game.

Use This PC Graphics Setup First

Don't begin with the highest preset and judge performance from a quiet rooftop. Swing through Times Square, cross the Financial District, and test a busy street at midday. That is where CPU streaming, pedestrians, reflections, and traffic expose weak settings. Set a frame-rate cap that your PC can hold consistently—60 fps is far better than a bouncing 45–90 fps if you care about combat timing and camera control.

For Nvidia hardware, DLSS Quality is usually the cleanest way to recover performance at 1440p and 4K. At 1080p, native resolution or dynamic resolution can look sharper, especially if your GPU is already comfortable. FSR 2.0 and XeSS are useful alternatives on compatible hardware, but compare thin web lines and distant building detail rather than staring at Peter's suit.

SettingRecommended ValueFPS ImpactVisual Note
Texture QualityHigh if VRAM allowsLow to mediumHigh-resolution suits and buildings look noticeably better
Shadow QualityMedium or HighMediumLower it before textures if you need frames
Traffic DensityMediumMedium CPU impactHigh values make city streets busier but can hurt traversal stability

Ray-Traced ReflectionsOff initiallyHigh GPU impactBeautiful puddles and windows, expensive in busy areas
Dynamic ResolutionOn for weaker GPUsImproves consistencyCan soften the image during fast movement
Motion BlurPersonal preference, usually lowNegligibleLower it if rapid swinging makes the image smear

Ray tracing isn't a free visual upgrade. Reflections look dramatically richer in wet streets and glass towers, but the effect can cut the frame rate exactly when you're crossing a dense district. Turn it on only after you have a stable non-RT baseline. If you're using a laptop, plug it in, select the high-performance GPU, and watch temperatures before chasing a few extra quality points. Our broader max-FPS settings advice applies here too: stabilize frametimes before raising detail.

Understand Peter's Combat Before Raising Difficulty

Spider-Man's combat is not a button-mashing brawl. The key resource is Focus, shown beneath your health. Attacking builds Focus, and a full Focus bar lets you heal or perform a Finisher. Healing consumes one Focus segment; finishers can spend one or more depending on upgrades and enemy type. The fastest early-game players aren't just avoiding damage—they're constantly converting combos into Focus, then using finishers to remove dangerous targets.

Press the dodge button when Spider-Sense turns blue, not after an enemy's fist reaches Peter. A blue warning is the normal timing window; a later yellow warning means a ranged or special attack that needs sharper timing. Perfect Dodges trigger a brief slow-motion window and can expose enemies, making them ideal for turning a surrounded fight into a counterattack. Hold the dodge input toward open space rather than blindly rolling into another thug.

Prioritize These Early Skills

In the Webslinger tree, Point Launch Boost improves traversal by letting you launch from a point with more speed. Quick Zip gives you a second air zip, which is excellent for correcting a swing or escaping a rooftop. Air Marshall improves aerial control and helps keep enemies suspended. These skills make the city feel better immediately, not merely later.

The Defender tree should follow with Perfect Dodge, Dodge Window, and Perfect Hit. Perfect Hit lets a well-timed attack generate more Focus, so it directly supports healing and finishers. In Innovator, Web Throw and Combo Booster are excellent for crowd control and faster Focus generation. You don't need to follow a rigid build, but movement plus Perfect Dodge is much more forgiving than dumping every first point into flashy attacks.

Skill or ToolWhy It Matters EarlyBest UseCommon Mistake
Perfect DodgeCreates openings and builds combat momentumBlue Spider-Sense attacksDodge too early and lose the slow-motion window
Point Launch BoostSpeeds up traversal between objectivesCrossing wide streets and rooftopsIgnoring it because missions unlock fast travel later
Web ThrowRemoves enemies from the crowdThrowing foes into walls or environmental hazardsUsing it without checking the landing surface
Impact WebInstantly webs enemies to wallsQuickly deleting a dangerous gunmanFiring at targets with no wall behind them
Electric WebStuns groups and creates chain reactionsClusters of melee enemiesWasting shots on a single weak target
Concussive BlastKnocks back crowds and interrupts attacksCreating breathing roomFiring it at armored enemies without a setup

Gadgets Are Your Real Crowd-Control Build

Your web shooters are only the beginning. The Impact Web is a low-cost execution tool when a wall, vehicle, or other surface is nearby. It is especially valuable against standard thugs and gunmen. Electric Web is better when enemies are grouped; the stun can jump between nearby targets and create a safe moment for a finisher. Concussive Blast is your panic button when a crowd collapses around you, while Web Bomb coats an area and sets up rapid immobilizations.

Use gadgets with movement instead of standing in the middle of a ring. Zip to a wall, fire Impact Web, launch back into the air, and land behind the next attacker. Against shield enemies, don't keep punching the front of the shield. Dodge behind them or use the appropriate web maneuver to open their guard. Brutes are vulnerable to heavy environmental attacks and specific gadget setups, while whip enemies punish careless aerial play—prioritize them before ordinary melee targets.

Later, Trip Mine becomes brilliant for stealth entrances and crowd management. Place it near a vent, doorway, or ledge, then lure a guard into its tether. Sparkle, unlocked through gadget upgrades, rewards groups with explosive electrical damage. The exact gadget order is flexible, but investing Tokens into ammo capacity and recharge means more control per encounter. That is usually stronger than chasing a tiny damage increase.

Suit Powers and Mods Change Your Playstyle

Suit powers are not locked to the suit you're wearing. Once unlocked, a power can be equipped with any costume, so pick the outfit you like and build the mechanics separately. The Web Blossom power is an outstanding early choice: it webs and damages enemies around Peter, instantly stabilizing a chaotic fight. Battle Focus fills the Focus bar rapidly and is useful when you need a heal or several finishers. Quad Damage is a later aggressive option for burst damage, but it doesn't replace the safety of control.

Suit mods have three slots and reward specialization. Battle Tech increases gadget damage, Combat Analyzer improves experience gained from combat, and Gel Padding reduces incoming melee damage. Threat Sensors slows time briefly when Spider-Sense warns of an attack, making it superb while learning enemy tells. First Aid improves healing from Focus, while Bio Mesh helps with incoming damage in tougher fights.

For a first playthrough, equip Combat Analyzer for progression, then pair Battle Tech with Threat Sensors or Gel Padding. Don't obsess over a perfect loadout before the campaign opens every system. Suit mods are unlocked with Base Tokens and Crime Tokens, while suit powers and gadgets commonly require Research, Landmark, Backpack, or Challenge Tokens. The game gives you plenty of opportunities, so failed challenges aren't permanent disasters.

Don't Clear Manhattan Like a Checklist

Side content is useful, but timing matters. Backpacks reveal pieces of Peter's history and award Backpack Tokens. Landmarks provide Landmark Tokens and are quick photo stops. Research Stations unlock science-focused activities and Research Tokens. Hideouts and Crimes deliver Base and Crime Tokens, and completing optional objectives during hideouts improves the payout.

Early on, prioritize activities that unlock suit mods, gadgets, and gadget ammo upgrades. Don't spend half an hour crossing the entire map for a collectible while your next story mission is waiting nearby. Unlock Police Towers as they appear; they reveal local activities and make districts readable. Once Fast Travel becomes available through the story, you can sweep remaining icons much faster.

Challenges run by Taskmaster are different from normal collectibles. They grade you on combat, stealth, traversal, and gadget use, and the medal thresholds can be demanding early. Bronze rewards are still valuable, so don't stall the campaign trying to perfect a top score with underpowered gear. Challenge Tokens are needed for several suit upgrades, but the best scores become easier after Peter has more skills, gadgets, and suit mods.

If you enjoy hunting hidden rewards in open worlds, our guides to secret locations and optional rewards and efficient exploration cover the same basic principle: unlock visibility and mobility first, then collect efficiently.

What to Expect From the Story and DLC

The main campaign takes you through a carefully paced escalation: Fisk's criminal empire gives way to the Demons, then the city becomes a war zone involving Sable International. Characters including Mary Jane Watson, Miles Morales, Yuri Watanabe, Otto Octavius, and Martin Li are not side decoration; their missions change the rhythm from freeform combat to stealth, investigation, or story-heavy set pieces.

MJ and Miles sections are deliberately slower and use stealth rules. Watch patrol routes, use distractions, and don't sprint into a guard's vision cone. Peter's Spider-Sense helps, but it won't rescue a careless approach after an alert. These missions are much less frustrating when you treat them as information-gathering puzzles rather than action stages.

After the main story—or whenever you choose—The City That Never Sleeps adds three chapters: The Heist, Turf Wars, and Silver Lining. They introduce new crimes, enemies, and story beats, including Black Cat and Hammerhead. The DLC assumes you understand the core combat loop, so finishing a few more suit and gadget upgrades first makes the extra content feel properly paced. You can find updates and technical information through the official Insomniac support site.

Your First Five Hours, Mapped Out

Start by completing the opening story missions until the city opens and the first skill trees become available. Spend early points on Perfect Dodge, Point Launch Boost, and either Quick Zip or Web Throw. When Research Stations and side activities unlock, complete a small cluster near your current objective instead of zigzagging across Manhattan.

Next, unlock Police Towers and buy one gadget upgrade that improves capacity or recharge. Pick a suit power that solves your current problem: Web Blossom for crowd control, Battle Focus for survival, or a damage-focused power if you already dodge consistently. Keep at least one stealth option equipped when entering enemy bases, because not every encounter needs to become a loud rooftop brawl.

Finally, revisit your graphics profile after the first major city chase. If swinging feels smooth, raise textures or shadows one step at a time. If the game stutters, lower traffic density, level of detail, and ray-traced reflections before sacrificing texture quality. Spider-Man Remastered is at its best when movement feels effortless, combat stays readable, and Manhattan disappears behind you in a blur of web lines. Build for that feeling first, and the rest of the game falls into place.
