The Dark Crusader, Lord, and Radiant Purifier are the best Lords of the Fallen classes in 2026, while Hallowed Knight and Orian Preacher remain the safest conventional starters. This tier list ranks every playable class—including secret unlocks—by PvE power, early-game reliability, stat efficiency, equipment access, and how effectively the class scales through New Game Plus.

This ranking assumes the current version of Lords of the Fallen and a standard solo playthrough rather than a specialized PvP build. Class choice determines starting attributes, armor, weapons, and spells, but it does not permanently lock your final build. You can redirect your character later, although your first several hours are heavily shaped by that opening loadout.

Lords of the Fallen S-Tier Classes

Lords of the Fallen Dark Crusader, Radiant Purifier, and Lord classes in combat
The three strongest class choices for experienced players.

1. Dark Crusader

The Dark Crusader is the strongest all-round starting class. It begins with high Strength and Endurance, strong armor, the Longsword, a shield, and the Radiant Flare-boosting Paladin equipment package. Its defining advantage is immediate access to a powerful defensive melee setup without the fragile opening that affects many magic classes. The Longsword's reach and reliable horizontal swings handle Umbral enemies, human-sized targets, and early bosses cleanly.

It also starts with the Paladin's Pendant, which improves core physical attributes, and its high Vitality makes mistakes less punishing. Dark Crusader is technically a secret class, unlocked by completing Isaac's questline and defeating the Lightreaper under the required conditions. Choose it for a first serious playthrough if you already know how to unlock it, or use it as the benchmark for every other melee class.

2. Lord

The Lord is the best high-level Inferno class. It combines heavy armor, excellent Inferno and Strength scaling, and early access to the Lord Axe and Infernal Orb. The axe deals punishing physical damage while the fire-based spell package lets you pressure enemies before they enter melee range. The class also benefits from strong Endurance, so its heavy equipment does not immediately force an uncomfortable slow-roll setup.

Its weakness is availability: the Lord requires finishing the game with the Inferno ending. That makes it exceptional for subsequent runs, but irrelevant for a completely fresh first character. In late-game areas, Inferno scaling and the class's access to spells such as Adyr's Rage give it a higher damage ceiling than most physical starters.

3. Radiant Purifier

Radiant Purifier is the premier Radiant caster and a superb New Game Plus choice. It starts with the Radiant Purifier Sword, a Radiant catalyst, heavy robes, and a spell kit built around Radiant Flare and Sanctify. Radiant Flare is particularly valuable against vulnerable targets because it delivers safe ranged pressure while Sanctify creates a healing area for sustained boss attempts.

The class needs Radiance investment before its spell damage becomes impressive, and its opening mana pool is less forgiving than the Dark Crusader's health-focused approach. Once a few Radiant spells and a better catalyst are available, however, it becomes one of the most dependable options for clearing large groups and exploiting Umbral or Rhogar enemies that struggle against Radiant damage.

Lords of the Fallen A-Tier Classes

Reliable melee classes dominate early PvE encounters.

4. Hallowed Knight

Hallowed Knight is the best standard recommendation for new players. Its starting Longsword, shield, and heavy Hallowed Sentinel armor create a familiar sword-and-board loop: block a hit, perform a guard counter, then use a charged heavy attack to build posture damage. The class begins with strong Endurance and Vitality, giving it more room for errors than the agile options.

It lacks early spell access and does not specialize as sharply as Dark Crusader, but it transitions easily into Strength, Quality, or Strength-Radiance builds. Keep the shield equipped for enemies such as the Holy Bulwark Otto, then switch to two-handing the sword when you understand a boss's attack rhythm.

5. Orian Preacher

Orian Preacher is the most balanced Radiant starter. The Orian Preacher Hammer supplies strong blunt damage, while the catalyst and Radiant magic provide healing and ranged utility. The class can use Sanctify once acquired, making long stretches between Vestiges safer, and its hammer is effective against armored targets that resist lighter slashing weapons.

6. Udirangr Warwolf

Udirangr Warwolf is the best pure Strength opener among the standard classes. Its large weapon, high Strength, and aggressive damage output make early enemy stagger easy to achieve. The trade-off is lower defensive comfort: heavy attacks consume stamina quickly, and the class can be punished badly when it commits to a slow swing. It ranks above other physical starters for players who understand spacing and two-handed weapon timing.

7. Blackfeather Ranger

Blackfeather Ranger earns A-tier status through flexibility. The class starts with an axe, bow, and medium armor, allowing players to soften targets with arrows before finishing them in melee. Ammunition is not unlimited, so it is not a pure ranged solution, but the bow is excellent for pulling one enemy from a group or interrupting exposed targets. It also transitions naturally into Agility, Strength, or Quality.

Lords of the Fallen B-Tier Classes

Ranged and Inferno classes offer safer approaches to Mournstead.

8. Partisan

Partisan is a dependable Quality class with the Partisan Flail, shield, and crossbow. The flail's damage is useful, but its animation timing is less intuitive than a sword's and its range can create spacing problems. The crossbow gives it useful pull-and-punish options, making Partisan a solid practical choice rather than a top-tier specialist.

9. Mournstead Infantry

Mournstead Infantry begins with a spear, shield, and medium armor. The spear's forward reach is valuable against aggressive enemies, and its thrusts are easy to place through a shield. It ranks below Hallowed Knight because its damage profile and defensive stats are less impressive, but it is a safe pick for players who prefer controlled pokes over sweeping sword attacks.

10. Exiled Stalker

Exiled Stalker is the agile Agility class, using paired daggers and a short bow. Dual-wielding produces rapid damage and strong status buildup, but the class has limited protection and requires close positioning. It performs well when built around Bleed or Poison, yet beginners often lose its advantage by trading hits instead of using dodge i-frames and back attacks.

11. Pyric Cultist

Pyric Cultist has the highest early Inferno identity among standard classes, beginning with the Pyric Cultist Staff and fire magic. Infernal Orb can pressure enemies from safety, but mana, spell availability, and low early defenses limit consistency. It becomes much stronger after obtaining additional Inferno spells and a catalyst with better scaling, so it is better for experienced casters than first-time players.

Lords of the Fallen C-Tier Classes

12. Condemned

Condemned is intentionally the challenge class. It begins at level 1 with extremely weak attributes, a bucket, and minimal equipment. Its advantage is total freedom: every later stat point can be shaped around any weapon, spell school, or status strategy. In practical terms, though, early Mournstead enemies become much more dangerous because Condemned has no meaningful defensive or damage specialization.

Pick Condemned for a self-imposed challenge, not because it secretly outscales the other classes. The class is especially demanding before the player can equip stronger weapons and meet their attribute requirements.

13. Putrid Child

Putrid Child is the Umbral-focused secret class, unlocked after completing the Umbral ending. It starts with the Putrid Child Sword, Umbral magic, and a stat spread built around Inferno and Radiance rather than conventional Strength or Agility. Its hybrid scaling offers unusual build freedom, but its best performance depends on obtaining advanced Umbral spells and managing mana carefully.

For experienced players, Putrid Child is a fascinating caster and one of the game's most distinctive classes. It ranks last only because it is unavailable during an ordinary first run and is less immediately efficient than the dedicated Lord or Radiant Purifier.

Best Class by Playstyle in 2026

Starting weapons shape each class's first hours.

Choose Dark Crusader for the strongest melee start, Hallowed Knight for the easiest first playthrough, Lord for maximum Inferno damage, and Radiant Purifier for a high-end Radiant caster. Udirangr Warwolf is the best aggressive Strength option, while Blackfeather Ranger gives the most practical ranged flexibility.

Do not overvalue the opening weapon. Weapon upgrades, runes, rings, spell selection, and stat allocation eventually matter more than the class label. If you are experimenting with a hybrid build, the same principle used in our respec guide applies: plan around your final scaling rather than wasting points across every attribute.
