A well-built Vault Hunter can turn Borderlands 3's campaign into a rapid-fire loot run.

If you own the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition, the fastest route to level 72 and a healthy cash reserve is simple: rush the main story with a focused build, unlock Mayhem Mode, then farm Scraptrap Nest in Moxxi's Heist while selling every valuable drop. The edition's DLC access makes this dramatically faster than relying on random campaign enemies, but it doesn't grant a hidden XP or money multiplier.

That distinction matters. Super Deluxe bundles the Season Pass and bonus cosmetic content, including the Butt Stallion weapon skin, trinket, and grenade mod, but the real advantage is access to strong DLC weapons, repeatable arenas, and extra endgame maps. You can confirm the included content on the official Steam page before planning your run.

Rush the Story Without Wasting XP

Start with a Vault Hunter who can clear packs without constantly stopping to reload. Moze is the easiest recommendation for a fresh character because Iron Bear gives you a panic button, damage spike, and reliable boss-killing tool even when your gear is mediocre. Zane is faster once you understand action-skill uptime, while Amara excels at mob control and FL4K deletes bosses quickly but can feel less forgiving during the campaign.

During the first 30 levels, spend skill points on damage and survivability rather than trying to build a perfect endgame tree. For Moze, move down the Demolition Woman tree toward Means of Destruction and Pull the Holy Pin. Means of Destruction returns ammunition and grenades when explosive damage lands, while Pull the Holy Pin gives grenades a chance to critically hit. That combination turns grenade-heavy rooms into self-sustaining XP bursts.

Use fast travel aggressively. The main story's required missions are enough to keep you close to the intended level curve, but optional side quests become inefficient if you complete them far below their recommended level. Leave most side missions untouched until you unlock Mayhem Mode; then their rewards scale to your current level and can produce useful quest gear.

31-40Finish the campaignUnlock Mayhem ModeEndgame scaling makes later XP and loot farms worthwhile

Don't waste time replaying the campaign in True Vault Hunter Mode for your first level-cap push. TVHM increases enemy scaling and offers a second story playthrough, but Mayhem Mode on Normal mode is generally quicker because the campaign is already complete and the best repeatable farms are immediately available.

Build for Kill Speed, Not Perfect Gear

Borderlands 3 Moze using Iron Bear against Maliwan forces

Fast leveling is a damage-per-second problem disguised as an XP problem. Every second spent inspecting weak guns, waiting for cooldowns, or reviving a downed pet is time you could have spent killing. Keep one weapon for close-range groups, one accurate option for shields or distant targets, and a grenade that matches your character's skill bonuses.

Moze should prioritize splash damage, grenade regeneration, and fuel-efficient Iron Bear weapons. The Bottomless Mags skill Cloud of Lead occasionally fires bullets without consuming ammo, while Redistribution restores ammunition after critical hits. A Vladof assault rifle with a high fire rate is excellent during the story because it benefits from both effects. Once you reach endgame, a splash-focused Moze can use a Flipper, Plasma Coil, or Faisor, but don't wait for those drops before progressing.

Zane's most efficient leveling pairing is Digi-Clone with SNTNL. Donnybrook grants gun damage and health regeneration after the Clone scores a kill, while Synchronicity rewards running both action skills. Equip a class mod that boosts violent speed or weapon damage and keep moving; Zane's speed is a defensive stat as much as an offensive one.

Amara gets excellent early control from Phasegrasp, particularly against clustered enemies. Violent Tapestry and Restless help maintain elemental effect and action-skill frequency, while Laid Bare increases damage against enemies affected by Phasegrasp. FL4K can take Rakk Attack! for frequent action-skill triggers or use Fade Away to erase tougher targets with critical hits.

For broader build inspiration, Steamoz's starting build advice and beginner build breakdown cover the same useful principle: build around a repeatable combat loop, not a theoretical maximum on a spreadsheet.

Scraptrap Nest Is the Fastest Cash Engine

Borderlands 3 vending machine showing weapons and cash value

After finishing Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, travel to The Compactor and enter Scraptrap Nest. The room throws dense waves of Scraptraps at you, making it ideal for XP, weapon drops, Eridium from badasses, and cash earned by selling the pile afterward. A strong level-50 or higher character can clear a run in minutes; at level 72, the farm becomes one of the most efficient ways to fund ammunition, SDUs, and vending-machine purchases.

The route is straightforward. Enter the Nest, activate your action skills immediately, and sweep the arena in a tight clockwise loop. Focus on explosive barrels only when you can avoid the blast, and kill the smaller Scraptraps before committing to Scraptrap Prime. Prime's electric attacks punish players who stand still, while its rotating saws can shred shields at close range. Keep moving laterally and use pillars as brief cover rather than hiding for long periods.

Once Scraptrap Prime dies, collect only high-value weapons, class mods, and artifacts. Then leave through the arena's exit and move far enough away to unload the zone without triggering a full area transition. Return to the Nest; the enemies can respawn, allowing another run without replaying the mission. If the room doesn't reset, save and quit, reload, and fast travel back to The Compactor. The exact reset behavior can vary with patch and multiplayer state, so save-and-quit remains the dependable fallback.

Turn Loot Into Cash Without Losing Time

Moze's explosive setup clears dense farming rooms with almost no downtime.
' alt='Borderlands 3 Mayhem Mode menu aboard Sanctuary III'>

Gold, called cash in Borderlands 3, is mostly a convenience resource. It buys ammunition, health, grenades, and SDU upgrades; it doesn't replace build quality. The fastest mistake is picking up every white weapon and filling your inventory before the next fight. Instead, compare the item's displayed value with its space cost. Purple weapons, class mods, artifacts, and high-level blue weapons are usually worth collecting. Low-level whites are rarely worth the detour once your inventory is full.

Sell during natural pauses at Marcus's vending machines or any Quick-Change station. The Lost Loot machine aboard Sanctuary III is useful for recovering missed rare items, but it has limited capacity and shouldn't become an excuse to ignore legendary drops. Expand your backpack SDU through Marcus's shop when possible; the extra slots directly improve the cash yield of every farming loop.

Keep one cash-boosting artifact if you find one, but don't sacrifice major weapon damage for it. Artifacts and class mods can roll valuable passives, yet a weak damage setup will take longer to clear Scraptrap Nest and lose more money through ammunition consumption and frequent Fight for Your Life revives. Cash efficiency starts with kill speed.

For a second source of practical progression, use the Super Deluxe Edition's extra campaigns after the base story. Guns, Love, and Tentacles and Bounty of Blood contain strong quest rewards and dense combat areas, while Director's Cut adds the Hemovorous the Invincible raid boss. Those are excellent endgame activities, but they aren't better than Scraptrap Nest for pure cash per minute unless your build already clears them rapidly.

Steamoz's gold-progression guide and fast progression tips reinforce a useful habit here: spend resources on permanent efficiency upgrades before chasing flashy extras.

Use Mayhem Mode as Your Final Multiplier

Borderlands 3 Vault Hunter fighting enemies in True Vault Hunter Mode

After the story, activate Mayhem Mode from the console aboard Sanctuary III. Mayhem increases enemy health, damage, and loot quality while adding modifiers. Mayhem 11 is the cleanest farming setting because it uses the same difficulty level as Mayhem 10 without the visible modifier list, though its rewards are reduced compared with Mayhem 10. If you can tolerate modifiers that complement your build, Mayhem 10 produces the best rewards.

Don't jump straight to Mayhem 10 with campaign weapons. Start at Mayhem 1, buy a few appropriately scaled guns from vending machines, and test your damage on regular enemies. Move upward when ordinary mobs die quickly and your shield survives more than one attack. A level-72 weapon at Mayhem 10 or 11 is vastly more useful than a level-50 legendary with a famous name.

Mayhem SettingRecommended SituationReward ProfileFarming Advice
Mayhem 1-3Fresh campaign clearModerate scaling and manageable modifiersReplace weapons frequently
Mayhem 4-6First serious endgame buildStrong loot with reasonable clear timesIdeal for testing skill interactions
Mayhem 10Optimized level-72 buildMaximum Mayhem reward scalingUse only if modifiers don't ruin your rotation
Mayhem 11Clean, repeatable farmsLower rewards than Mayhem 10 but no modifiersBest choice for consistent Scraptrap runs

For graphics, prioritize stable frame rate during dense farms. On PC, lower Volumetric Fog and Screen Space Reflections first; both can cost performance in crowded areas without improving your kill speed. Keep Texture Quality high if your GPU has enough VRAM, because blurry weapon effects make elemental projectiles and enemy telegraphs harder to read. The official Borderlands site and 2K support hub are useful references for current updates and platform-specific fixes.

The winning routine is therefore clear: rush the campaign, delay most side quests, unlock Mayhem, gear up at a low Mayhem level, and repeat Scraptrap Nest while selling the loot between runs. Your Super Deluxe Edition content won't magically print money, but its DLC turns Borderlands 3 into a much faster leveling machine once you use the right farm.
